Six Indians among top 100 global thinkers

Social activist Anna Hazare, software czar Azim Premji and four other Indians have been named in the US-based Foreign Policy magazine's list of the top 100 global thinkers for 2011.
Economist Abhijit Banerjee, writer-activist Arundhati Roy, researcher Deepa Narayan and scholar Arvind Subramanian are the other Indians in the list topped by Arab activists who helped bring democracy to the Middle East. US President Barack Obama is ranked 11th on the list.
Nine Indians figured in the 2010 list. The highest spot to an Indian this year went to Premji, ranked at 14, who the magazine called the 'Bill Gates of India'.
'It's not just because of Azim Premji's enormous wealth that he is compared to the American technologist turned philanthropist,' the magazine said about India's third richest citizen with a net worth of $13 billion, according to Forbes magazine.
'It is Premji's unprecedented philanthropy, that recently has borne out the Gates comparison,' it said noting the chairman of the IT firm Wipro, recently contributed nearly $2 billion to a rural education project.
Anna Hazare, who is leading a popular campaign demanding tough new laws to curb corruption, is the next Indian who features on the list, ranked at number 37. He figures for 'asking the world's largest democracy to live up to its billing'.
'The simplicity and single-mindedness of Hazare's crusade has awakened millions of middle-class professionals who are fed up with India's pervasive culture of graft,' the magazine said.
Economist Abhijit Banerjee, who teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was ranked 60th along with fellow economist Esther Duflo for their book, Poor Economics, on the world's poorest.
Poverty researcher Deepa Narayan (rank 79) gets on the list for 'seeing the poor as more than victims', while the author of 'The God of Small Things', Arundhati Roy (rank 94) is described as the 'voice of India's voiceless'.
Arvind Subramanian, a senior fellow at Washington's Peterson Institute for International Economics was ranked 97 on the list for 'sounding the alarm on China's economic ascendancy' in his new book Eclipse: Living in the Shadow of China's Economic Dominance.

samsung i7500

The Samsung i7500, known as Samsung Galaxy in some countries, is the first mobile phone manufactured by Samsung that uses the open source Android operating system. It was announced on 27 April 2009. It is succeeded by the Samsung i5700.

The i7500 is a 3.5G smartphone, offering quad-band GSM and announced with tri-band HSDPA (900/1700/2100) at 7.2Mbps (however, Samsung's official pages for the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish versions only mention dual-band UMTS 900/2100). The phone features a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen, a 5 Megapixel autofocus camera with power LED flash, and a digital compass. Unlike the first Android phone, the HTC Dream (the G1), the i7500 has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Directional Pad in place of a trackball.
Software-wise, the i7500 offers a suite of Mobile Google services, including Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar, and Google Talk. The phone's GPS enables Google Maps features such as My Location, and Google Latitude. It also supports MP3, AAC (including iTunes Plus downloads) (only the codec, not the .acc format), and H.264 video.[9] A beta version of the Spotify music streaming service is also now available for this phone via the Android Marketplace.

The i7500 is available in Austria, Germany, Italy and Israel. It is also available in France via Bouygues Telecom, where it has been labeled "Samsung Galaxy", then since August 2009 in Poland via Play Mobile, Serbia via Telenor Serbia, Croatia via Vipnet and Slovenia via Mobitel (Slovenia). It is also expected to be available from T-Mobile in some other markets, including the US.The phone is available in Turkey since 14 September 2009 via Turkcell. The i7500 has been confirmed for an August release on O2 in the United Kingdom which is exclusive to O2 for 4 weeks.Despite this, the phone became available to new and existing customers on O2's UK website on Saturday 29 August 2009. On October 2009, it became the first Android phone released in Brazil, via TIM. O2's Irish operations are set to launch the handset in November 2009.The Samsung i7500L is also available in Canada as Samsung Galaxy on Bell Mobility and on Rogers Wireless. In Spain used to be available on Yoigo. The i7500 has also been confirmed to be launched in India on Tata Docomo, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. Sales in India have been less than expected. In Spain used to be available on Yoigo, with Android 1.5, also called Android "Cupcake".

Due to a lack of firmware updates Samsung has received a lot of criticism from Galaxy users.[18] A petition requesting future updates has been initiated. To date over 8000 people have signed it.
For some countries, Samsung has updated the Galaxy's firmware to Donut (1.6). Users from other countries can download and update it manually (which will void the warranty). Drakaz, a developer who has been working on getting Android v1.6, v2.2 and v2.3 to work on the i7500 for some time has made some improvements

Dookudu 2011 Vs Magadheera 2009 Vs Pokiri 2006

The ‘Dookudu’ mania has picked up and many are seeing it as the best blockbuster for this year. As if that is not enough, a new analysis is being made. Can ‘Dookudu’ beat ‘Magadheera’, the biggest blockbuster of Tollywood’s history. Currently, the hype for ‘Dookudu’ is strong but let us go through few facts and factors between both the films to figure out which is better in both.

When it comes to ‘Magadheera’, it doesn’t give you a bore feeling. The durability factor is high and there is an engaging speed in it. Most importantly, the emotional depth is strong and all genres of audience connected to it. The film has enough material to get repeat audience and the concept in itself was something the Telugu audience had never experienced before. Above all, graphics were of very high quality and the visual splendor was very strong. ‘Magadheera’ came in 2009 and collected about Rs 80 crores.

Speaking about ‘Dookudu’, the entertainment quotient is high but it is only youth oriented. On the bright side, the craze for Mahesh Babu is high and the songs especially ‘Poovai poovai…’ have got crazy response. While ‘Magadheera’ dropped in the comedy factor, ‘Dookudu’ scored big time in it and despite the length of the film, there was not much of dull moment. The long wait to see Mahesh has worked in the film’s favour. Above all, the holiday season and the lack of other big movies around has given a window of two full weeks for the collections to go strong.

On the flip side, ‘Dookudu’ is routine storyline and the pattern is predictable. The emotional graph is less and everything is touch and go. Also, there are instances that big cinemas got good talk in the first week and collections dropped after a week. There is also a comparison about ‘Dookudu’ beating ‘Pokiri’. As such, this comparison is not relevant. There is nothing significant about the time when ‘Pokiri’ came. It released in 2006. Lot of changes happened since then in terms of ticket price hike, release in larger number of theatre etc. So, there is a difference between then and now.

The best way to know who the winner among ‘Dookudu’ and ‘Magadheera’ will be recording the collections after 2 weeks. Each film has its own credentials and setbacks but the audience taste varies from season to season. So it is all on them to see whether they receive ‘Dookudu’ the same way as they received ‘Magadheera’. This should be an interesting battle.

dookudu vs magadheera

Whats the Difference between Dookudu and Magadheera?

DOOKUDU Movie:
1. Comedy – (Brahmanandam, MS Narayana, Mahesh, Kishore)

2. Action Sequences ( Mahesh, Sonu Sood) – No proper action to be frank

3. Songs – Parvathi Meltion Item song is a huge hit (Poyi Poyi)

4. Old Story, Routine, Too Lengthy, No New concepts.

5. Released on the first day with highest number of prints in highest number of theatres across the world.

6. Mahesh and Srinu Vytla (Brahmi, MS) – thats it, nothing else. Go for Entertainment and dont expect anything unusual.

_______________________________________________________

MAGHADHEERA:
1. Comedy : Frankly there is no comedy (Brahmi, Sunil)

2. Story: 400 years back drop (A visual Treat)

3. Music : Its like a pillar, Keeravani gave life with his Background Score

4. Cast: Charan, Kajal, Srihari, Dev Gill (Extraordinary Performances)

5. Director: Rajamouli proved himself that he can take audience to a visual dream.

6. Collections: 65 Crore.

7. Theatres released – 1277, Screens – 4000

8. Still in Kurnool one theatre run Magadheera.

IS THERE Match or comparison between these two films. Dookudu will never cross Magadheera it is very difficult for dookudu for long run.Audience and fans will forget Dookudu after 3-4 months, but not in Magadheera case.

I did not want to wait till 40 to be a CEO

“Even when I was in college I was sitting with the new business idea every week, so the thought of doing something on my own was never out of the question” says this economic graduate who completed her MBA from IMT and is now founder and CEO of e-commerce giant 99labels.com

Leap of Faith

The brilliant entrepreneur was soon spotted by Cadbury’s soon after her MBA completed. After a three-and-a-half year stint with Cadbury, where she handled the brand management of both the confectionary division and Cadbury’s Dollops ice-cream Ishita was itching to do something on her own. Reason, there was nothing left to learn, and Ishita liked the learning curve’s upwardly movement more. So she quit Cadbury’s and teamed up with a school time friend to start up her first company called the Orion Dialogue which was going to be instrumental in the ITES sector in India and one of the first to focus solely on the Indian market.

“We did our research before jumping to the business bandwagon. Back in the 1994-95 the BPO industry was just starting out and it was a good time to venture into the same. We did our research and with as good as no money in our pockets and no backing we took a big leap of faith and founded what we called the Orion Dialogue private limited company” she tells proudly.

“Fortunately for us, the business was soon spotted by a leading international bank who wanted us to do this for them” she tells. Ishita says that they were well equipped with the expertise on the field and were lucky that the profits started rolling in much sooner than expected but it was not all as hunky dory as it sounds” she adds

There were many times when she and her business partner would approach investors with a business plan and they would turn her away asking her to get her father and then they would discuss things further or would simply not take them seriously enough.

However, in the 11-year-run that Orion Dialogue had, Ishita and her partner now were operating out of three offices from different cities in India which was quite an achievement she tells.

After leading the company to great heights she was bought out by to Aegis BPO in 2006 leaving Swarup to achieve even greater heights. While she was deciding her next venture, Ishita also helped setting up businesses but consulting other women entrepreneurs.

99labels.com

Ishita tells us that as tough as it may seem to start an e-commerce business, her creative experience at Rediff and Yahoo helped her immensely. In spite of her corporate accomplishments she opted to become an entrepreneur and eventually launched 99labels.com.

The idea of 99labels.com says Ishita made a lot of sense as a consumer. She says, 99labels offers an exclusive chance for people to buy credible, branded items from a reliable source at discounted prices and from the privacy and convenience of their own home. So from a consumer’s point of view it was a win-win situation. Swarup further adds that the timing of entering the market seemed perfect too. E-commerce was big abroad and people in India had started to accept the idea and hence there was huge potential for a site like 99lables.com here.

On being a woman entrepreneur

Ishita says that she always wanted to do something of her won. “You see I never wanted to wait till I was forty-years-old to become a CEO. I became a CEO at the age of 25, when the rest of my friends or ex-colleagues were cribbing about their unsatisfying jobs.

Ishita personally feels that being an entrepreneur itself empowers a person, and if a woman wants to build a career as an entrepreneur there is nothing that is more satisfying. She even feels that being a woman entrepreneur has more advantages than otherwise.

“Being an entrepreneur gives women the freedom to work the way she wants to, when she wants to and how she wants to. A woman sometimes struggles more in the corporate world than when she works on her own terms” she quips. As an entrepreneur gets to explore more and push her limits which is not really possible when it comes to working in a structured atmosphere.
